Oops She Did It Again...Or Did She?

At the beginning of the Obama era I was as pleased as punch when I learned of all the whip smart, beautiful, and stylish women joining his team. For a person who isn't easily star struck, I am a bit googley over Ms. Susan Rice. She totally rocks! But oh how I wish this were a chance for me to wax on about Ms. Rice. Nope. Naw dog. It ain't so. I shake my head, purse my lips and throw a mean side eye toward the mess that is the Desiree Rogers scandal. She has indeed become history's most famous Social Secretary and that turns out, isn't a good thing!

Am I The Only One

So I'm reading an article on CNN's site about James von Brunn, the accused shooter in the Holocaust Museum murder and I'm utterly amazed at what some people are willing to say on record. When a gallery owner was questioned about his knowledge of von Brunn's mental condition he had the following to say:

After three days, he said, von Brunn accused him of not doing enough to sell the paintings, telling him he "really needed money." Demolli said he gave the man $20, which he immediately used to buy beer and cigarettes and returned to the gallery, where he quickly began to disparage residents of the surrounding neighborhood, which was largely African-American.
"Then he started talking about the gas chambers, and I said, 'Jim, that's it. That's it. Time out.' I told him to get out of my gallery, and I started taking his paintings down," Demolli said. As he removed the last painting, he said, von Brunn opened his jacket to show him a pistol.

Is it just me or does it appear that the gallery owner was cool with von Brunn making disparaging remarks about African-Americans, but he had crossed the line to talk about Jews? Isn't it all wrong? Shouldn't we have respect for all races? Am I reading too much into the comment?

Give It A Rest

By now, most of you have seen or heard about the above picture of President Obama with Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. Even though this picture was taken days ago, it's still being discussed in the papers and on cable news shows. I suppose American poverty, the devastation of HIV/AIDS in American cities, our failure of our kids by giving them a poor educational system and a host of other legitimate topics that need attention weren't tantalizing enough.

Republican leaders and strategists would have me believe that this picture is nearly akin to showing a child porn because Chavez called former President Bush "the devil." SO WHAT??!?! You know how many Americans have either called him the devil or at the very least thought he was Satan's spawn? I know he's neither. He just sniffed too much glue as a kid and possibly got tangled in the seat belts on the short bus thereby cutting off oxygen to the brain a little too long. I'm sure he's been a called a lot worse, maybe even by his own family. His father always looks annoyed by him.

Before you believe the hype, let me remind you of a few things:

1. Chavez didn't call ALL Americans the devil, ONLY Bush.
2. If Obama continues the same America-Knows-Best-So-Play-By-Our-Rules-Or-Else policy as every other president then, how far will we really get in true diplomacy?
3. When American gas prices were so high and many needy families couldn't afford to heat their homes in the winter months a few years back, Venezuelan oil was offered to them at a 40% discount. This was more than their own nation provided by way of relief.
4. Some critics said that the handshake was okay, but Obama shouldn't have smiled. What the pluck?! So I'm gonna frown and shake your hand? To exchange a handshake is to exchange a pleasantry. So I'll be gracious and extend my hand, but I'll scowl the whole time so you know I don't really want to do this? Why bother?
5. Republicans lost, they're unhappy about their loss, the head of the RNC is a blabbering idiot, and their current "stars" are Sarah Palin, Bobby Jindal and Meghan McCain. That should say enough.

I could go on but my lunch is over so, I'll end it here.

Man I wish I still had cable

In general, I'm not a huge fan of reality tv. I nearly loathe it. It takes no creativity, it's a bunch of people trying to be famous, and the people usually end up looking like total arses (I'm glad Bowler Boy and I didn't make it past the 2nd round of interviews for the Real World New Orleans season). However, I make the exception for the Real Housewives franchise on Bravo. I love those women!! My favorites are the wives in Orange County. You better ask somebody.

The Atlanta wives are phony and something about watching Black people make an arse of themselves equals coonery to me. Besides, it's been revealed that most of them are posers anyway. One has been evicted from her home, one needed a staff of people to take care of her 4 member family (she was spending like there was not a recession looming at the time of taping and like her husband wasn't about to retire from the NBA with no real backup plan), another had a "dreadful" fashion line that she was trying to stunt about while she was fronting like her ex-husband was going to give her an 8-figure divorce settlement (in the end she got mere peanuts and claimed to be illiterate), yet another was dumb as all get out and was proud of being a married man's kept woman (great lessons for her daughters), and the last woman was really just guilty of being Keith Sweat's former wife.

Last season, the New York cast bored me each week and made me angry enough to want to toss the tv out my 3rd floor window. But they have redeemed themselves this year with foolishness. If you don't mind losing brain matter, click the link below.

Space Age Pimp'n

If we have enough financial resources and politicians have enough time on their hands to be arguing with the Russians over toilet privileges, gym equipment, and who's name is on the food in the fridge on the International Space Station then, don't we have the resources and the time to fund better education, healthcare, and cures for diseases? I won't even get into the fact that humans are actually living on a station in outer space and why if that's possible than anything is possible. Nope not gonna touch that.
